Summary

Built for Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, part of the Pennaf Housing Group, the £5m Chirk Court EMI Extra-Care Facility consists of 66 specialist en suite bedrooms with facilities to meet a range of care needs, specialising in dementia care.

Project Information

The construction programme consisted of 2 elements which included the refurbishment of buildings of the existing care home and the construction of a brand new accommodation building.

Two of the four wings of the original building were transformed with a £900,000 refurbishment programme providing accommodation for ten existing residents, as well as admin offices, service catering areas and a medication management facility. The remaining two wings of the former building were demolished to make way for the construction of new, separate accommodation areas which provide an additional 56 beds, specifically designed for residents with dementia.

The building is of a timber frame with brick façade and tiled roof founded on standard concrete strip foundations, a large planar-glazed entrance/orangery provides the main access to the building which links directly to the newly landscaped car parking areas.
