Project Overview

Client: Halen Mon, Anglesey Sea Salt
Contract: NEC3 Engineering and Construction 2013
Estimated Value: £1.2m
Completed: February 2015

Information

Halen Mon enables the production, drying, flavouring, and packaging of the famous Anglesey Sea Salt. The development is innovative in that is incorporates the production factory in with business offices and a Visitor Centre and Attraction Gift Shop.

The bespoke 1,000 square metre building has been built using steel frames with composite structural insulated panels clad using specially selected local Welsh larch, which ensures the building fits comfortably into the surrounding Menai Straights.

The new unique construction has replaced the prefabricated food grade portable cabins which were the base office and production facilities for seven years. The development is the first of its kind in the UK and was awarded the Green Apple Award for Built Environment & Architectural Heritage.

Anwyl worked with the local college to develop the Welsh larch cladding. Not only was the larch sourced locally, Anwyl invited the college students to machine the larch to develop the cladding which was later fitted to the building. The students and tutors were extremely pleased with this opportunity and proud of the heritage they had created to remain for years to come.
